Creative briefs

A good collaboration starts on the page.

Give the project a clear purpose

State the audience, the message and the action or understanding you want the work to support. Explain the context that a designer cannot infer from a mood board.

Separate needs from preferences

List fixed requirements such as dimensions, accessibility, brand assets and deadlines. Then describe preferences and open questions. This gives a creative collaborator room to solve the problem.

Make feedback actionable

Choose one person to consolidate feedback. Refer to the agreed purpose, explain the problem you see and avoid contradictory instructions. Confirm revision stages, approvals and usage rights before production starts.

Explore the journal for new notes as they are published.
